Adewoyin Receives UCJ Unilorin Award of Excellence for Journalism Support

The Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ilorin, UCJ Unilorin, has honoured Hon. Tijani Adekola Adewoyin, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Unilorin Chapel, with an Award of Excellence and Journalism Support.


The presentation was made on Wednesday night, 29th July, 2026, during the union’s 30th Anniversary Dinner held at the NUJ

Kwara State Council Secretariat in Ilorin. The event marked three decades of campus journalism at the University of Ilorin.


According to the citation read at the ceremony, the award was conferred in recognition of Hon. Adewoyin’s outstanding contributions to the growth, visibility, and professional development of campus journalism at the University of Ilorin.


In its remarks, the UCJ Unilorin Editorial Board described the NUJ Chapel Chairman as a consistent advocate, mentor, and pillar of support for student journalists. The board noted that his guidance and intervention over the years have helped to uphold professional ethics, promote best practices, and strengthen the relationship between campus journalists and the mainstream media.


The anniversary celebration drew a large gathering of past and present members of UCJ Unilorin, veteran journalists, media executives, and other stakeholders within and outside the university community. Speakers at the event reflected on the union’s journey since its founding in 1996 and its role in producing media professionals who are making impact across Nigeria.


Responding to the honour, Hon. Adewoyin expressed appreciation to UCJ Unilorin for the recognition. He described campus journalism as the foundation of the media profession and pledged his continued support for the training, welfare, and capacity building of student journalists.


He further emphasized the critical role of the media in deepening democracy, promoting accountability, and driving national development. He urged student journalists to remain committed to truth, accuracy, and ethical reporting.
