VC Egbewole, NUJ Chiefs, Royal Fathers Grace Unilorin NUJ’s 13th Anniversary, Secretariat Launch

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), University of Ilorin Chapel, on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, celebrated its 13th Anniversary and launched its Secretariat Building in a landmark ceremony held at the University of Ilorin.


The event brought together the university management, union leaders, royal fathers, sister chapels, campus media bodies, and well-wishers to commemorate what the Chapel described as a “historic milestone” in its growth.


In an appreciation message jointly signed by the Chairman, *Hon. Adewoyin Tijani Adekola*, and the Secretary, *Comrade Bashirat Omotosho*, the Chapel thanked Almighty Allah for the successful hosting of the dual celebration.

The Chapel expressed profound gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, *Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN*, and the Management of the University of Ilorin for providing an enabling environment and sustained institutional support over the years.


Special appreciation was also extended to the Director, Directorate of Corporate Affairs, *Chief Kunle Akogun*, for his fatherly guidance and unwavering support, and to the General Manager of UNILORIN FM, *Mr. Ibrahim Akintola Idris*, for his support, media coverage, partnership, and presence at the event.


The National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahya Abdullahi*, and the National Secretary, Comrade Achike Chude*, of the NUJ National Secretariat, were commended for their goodwill message which, according to the Chapel, gave the celebration national significance. The Kwara State Council of the NUJ, led by Chairman Comrade Abdullateef Lanre Ahmad*, was equally acknowledged for its solidarity and physical presence.


The Guest Speaker, Prof Razaq Muhammad Adisa*, was applauded for delivering an insightful lecture and honouring the occasion with his presence. The Chapel also appreciated royal fathers and traditional leaders for their blessings, donations, and endorsement, which added prestige to the celebration.


Other bodies recognized include Sister Chapels of the NUJ, the leadership and members of NAWOJ, Kwara State Chapter, the Union of Campus Journalists (UCJ), University of Ilorin Chapter, and the leadership of RATTAWU, Unilorin Chapter, for their solidarity and active participation.


The Chapel lauded the tireless efforts of the Organizing Committee Members, the commitment of its own members, the cooperation of the entire staff of the Directorate of Corporate Affairs, and the contributions of friends, supporters, and well-wishers whose donations, prayers, and presence made the event a success.


Describing the launch of the Secretariat Building as the realization of a long-held vision, the Chapel noted that the milestone was a collective achievement. It prayed for Almighty Allah’s abundant reward for all contributors and for the strengthening of comradeship within the union.


The 13th Anniversary and Secretariat launch mark a new chapter for the NUJ, University of Ilorin Chapel, as it continues to advance press freedom, professionalism, and union solidarity on campus.
