YORUBA LANGUAGE PRESERVATION PROJECT ANNOUNCES INAUGURAL BRAIN TRUST MEETING
The Yoruba Language Preservation Project (Èdè wa ni - Ẹ Gbe L'árugẹ) is proud to announce the inaugural meeting of its Brain Trust, scheduled for Saturday, October 11, 2025.
This landmark gathering will bring together distinguished cultural leaders, scholars, linguists, educators, and advocates committed to safeguarding and revitalizing the Yoruba language among young people.
The Brain Trust, comprising eminent personalities from across the Yoruba-speaking regions and diaspora, will serve as the intellectual and strategic cornerstone of this groundbreaking cultural initiative.
"The formation of the Brain Trust represents a critical milestone in our journey to preserve the rich linguistic and cultural heritage of the Yoruba people for future generations," said Olushola Macaulay, Director of the Project. "By bringing together this exceptional group of minds, we are creating a unique force for cultural revitalization that combines traditional wisdom with innovative approaches."
The is dedicated to reversing the decline of Yoruba language usage among young people by transforming language learning into an exciting, immersive, and culturally rich experience. It aims to foster a new generation of fluent Yoruba speakers who are passionate about preserving and promoting their cultural heritage. Using a reality show-inspired format, the project will engage youth from Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, and parts of Kogi, Kwara, and Edo States with immersive activities focused on language acquisition and cultural connection.
Distinguished members of the Brain Trust include renowned Yoruba scholars, award-winning authors, cultural advocates, media personalities, and educational leaders.
Their collective expertise will guide the project's development, ensuring authenticity, educational excellence, and cultural sensitivity.
"Language is the carrier of culture, and when a language declines, we lose not just words but entire knowledge systems, worldviews, and identities," as noted by the General Manager of UNILORIN 89.3 FM, Mr. Idris Akintola Ibrahim. "This initiative represents a bold and necessary intervention at a critical time in our nation building."
This Project is powered by Light-up Africa Development Initiative (LADI), an NGO based in Nigeria.
