Unilorin Set to Host Landmark International Translation Day, Celebration and Conference
The University of Ilorin is set to host a landmark event, the 2025 International Translation Day celebration, with a conference themed "Leveraging Translation/Interpretation in the 21st Century for the Transformation of Education, Governance, Religion, Agriculture, and Healthcare." The conference, scheduled to take place from November 5 to 8, 2025, at the University of Ilorin, promises to be a groundbreaking moment in the history of translation studies. |
According to Dr. Aliy Abdulwahid Adebisi, Director of the Institute of Translation Arts, University of Ilorin, and President of the Nigerian Institute of Translators and Interpreters (NITI), the conference will feature a keynote address by Professor Raheem Adebayo Lawal from the Department of Arts Education, University of Ilorin. Lead paper presentations will be delivered by Dr. Mrs. Samiat Olubunmi Abubakre from the Department of Linguistics & Nigerian Languages, University of Ilorin, and Rindon Kundu, Ph.D., Assistant Professor and Founder Director, Sri Sri Centre for Translation and Interpreting Studies, Sri Sri University, Cuttack, India.
Dr. Adebisi further stressed that the conference will explore various aspects of translation and interpretation, including artificial intelligence, digital communication, conflict resolution, and indigenous literature. Specific discussion topics will include translation in education, governance and translation, religion and translation, agriculture and translation, and healthcare and translation.
He said that the conference is being organized by the Nigerian Institute of Translators and Interpreters (NÍTÌ) in collaboration with the Institute of Translation Arts, University of Ilorin. The Chief Host is Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole (SAN), Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin. Dr. Aliy Abdulwahid Adebisi, National President, NÍTÌ and Acting Director, Institute of Translation Arts, University of Ilorin, is the host.
He stressed further that Dr. Ndubuisi Ahamefula serves as Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee. The Vice Chancellor has expressed his support for the conference, which promises to be a celebration of past achievements and a bold step into the future of the profession.
Dr Adebisi said the arrival date is November 4, 2025. The opening ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 10:00 am at the Main Auditorium, University of Ilorin, Nigeria.
