Mr. Nigeria Drags MONEY TREE Loan App to Court Over Cyberbullying and Character Assassination

Urges Victims to Turn to His VAPP Law Awareness Project and the PROJECT FOR SANITISING THE ONLINE LENDING ECOSYSTEM for Help

Ilorin, Nigeria – July 2025

A Nigerian based publisher cum social justice activist, Hon.Abdul-Hameed Oladipupo Alli, popularly known as Mr. Nigeria, has called on victims of online financial harassment to seek help through his newly launched Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law Awareness Project and the PROJECT FOR SANITISING THE ONLINE LENDING ECOSYSTEM.

The call follows his public confrontation with a digital loan provider, MoneyTree, which he accuses of fraud, blackmail, and criminal defamation.

According to Alli, the loan app electronically manipulated his repayment date , altered app data, denied him access to accurate information, and eventually circulated a malicious message labeling him as a “criminal” who duped the platform of ₦22,000 - all without due legal process or court judgment. "This is character assassination at its worst," said Alli. "They have no authority to call anyone a criminal without the pronouncement of a competent court."

Alli stated that the ordeal began when he applied for a test loan to evaluate the behavior of online loan officers in Nigeria. When he questioned discrepancies in the loan’s due date, different representatives who introduced themselves as agents from Money Tree reportedly threatened him and later made good on that threat by sharing defamatory content with his contacts.

"I wasn’t in need of the money. I was on a fact-finding mission to sanitize the online lending ecosystem," he explained. "Instead of answers, I was bullied, blackmailed, and labeled a criminal."

In sharp contrast, he praised another loan app, Flexy Cash and Frimony, for maintaining civility and professionalism in handling clients. He promised to release a full consumer protection report assessing the conduct of major loan apps.

Alli now plans to file:

A direct criminal complaint against Monie Tree for defamation and cyber harassment.

A civil suit demanding ₦50 million in damages for reputational harm and emotional trauma.

He is urging other victims of loan app abuse, threats, or defamation to report their cases to his VAPP Law Awareness Project, which provides guidance, documentation, and legal referral under the protections guaranteed by Nigeria’s VAPP Act.

Hon. Alli enjoins all members of the public to join the Movement to Clean Up Digital Lending.

“If you or someone you know has suffered digital harassment, identity theft, defamation, or threats from loan apps:

 Report it NOW:

He concluded by stating that…’this is part of the Project for Sanitising the Online Lending Ecosystem.Protecting Consumers and exposing the oppressors.
