The 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination
(UTME) glitch that disrupted the results of over 379,997 candidates in 157
centers across six states could have been a moment of reckoning for many
leaders.
However, Prof. Oloyede chose to take responsibility,
apologising to the nation and swiftly rescheduling the examination. This bold
move has been hailed as a testament to his character and leadership.
Prof. Oloyede's actions have sparked a wave of support
from various quarters, including academic institutions and public figures. The
Lagos State University (LASU) and the University of Ilorin, an institution he
has previously led with distinction, have rallied behind him. Former Minister
of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, has also commended Prof. Oloyede's commitment to
institutional integrity, highlighting his willingness to acknowledge
shortcomings and engage in dialogue with stakeholders.
As a Very Important Person (VIP) in the education
sector, Prof. Oloyede's leadership style is worth emulating. His commitment to
transparency and accountability is reminiscent of world leaders who have
demonstrated courage and accountability in the face of adversity. Like Willy
Brandt, who kneeled at the Warsaw Ghetto memorial to acknowledge Germany's Nazi
past, Prof. Oloyede has shown that true leadership involves taking
responsibility for one's actions.
Prof. Oloyede's transformative impact on the
University of Ilorin and JAMB is a testament to his exceptional leadership
skills. His introduction of computer-based exams and the Central Admissions
Processing System (CAPS) has enhanced efficiency and reduced malpractices in
university admissions. His leadership has promoted transparency,
accountability, and financial integrity, with notable achievements including
remitting N20.7 billion to the federal government and reducing JAMB application
fees by 30%.
The current challenge facing JAMB is an opportunity
for Prof. Oloyede to demonstrate his commitment to accountability and
transparency. By taking responsibility for the glitch and rescheduling the
examination, he has shown that he values the welfare of the students and is
willing to go extra mile to ensure their success.
As we reflect on Prof. Oloyede's achievements, it is
essential to remember his contributions to the education sector. His leadership
has been marked by a commitment to excellence, transparency, and
accountability. He has set a high standard for others to follow, and his legacy
will undoubtedly be remembered for generations to come.
The support Prof. Oloyede has received from various
quarters is a testament to his reputation as a leader who values accountability
and transparency. His commitment to institutional integrity has earned him the
respect and admiration of his peers and the public.
In a world where accountability is often sacrificed at
the altar of self-preservation, Prof. Oloyede's actions are a breath of fresh
air. His commitment to transparency and accountability is a beacon of hope for
our nation, and we must continue to support leaders like him who embody these
values.
As we move forward, it is crucial that we rally around
Prof. Oloyede and support his efforts to improve the education sector. We must
work on both internal and external apparatuses to prevent future occurrences,
ensuring that our institutions remain accountable and transparent. By doing so,
we can build a nation that values integrity, accountability, and the welfare of
its citizens.
Prof. Oloyede's leadership style is a testament to his
character and commitment to excellence. His willingness to take responsibility
for the glitch and reschedule the examination has demonstrated that he is a
leader who values the welfare of the students and is willing to go the extra
mile to ensure their success.
In conclusion, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede's courageous steps
in the face of adversity serve as a shining example of leadership that
prioritises accountability, transparency, and the welfare of the people. His
recent appointment by the Federal Government as the Chairman of Examination
Malpractices Eradication in all schools in Nigeria is a testament to his
integrity and transparency.
While we are sympathetic to the affected students and
share in their pain, only God is perfect. JAMB will come out stronger and
better, as Prof. Oloyede has assured. Let us remember his achievements and
great work, rallying around him and supporting his efforts to build a better
nation for all. His legacy will undoubtedly be remembered for generations to
come, and his commitment to excellence, transparency, and accountability will
continue to inspire others to its footsteps.
