269th Unilorin Inaugural Lecture: "Expert Advocates for Safer Grazing Routes to Mitigate Health Risks"
Professor Oyebisi Mistura Azeez, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Ilorin, has emphasized the need for safer grazing routes for livestock in Nigeria. This appeal was made during her 269th inaugural lecture, titled "The Matters of the Heart on the Survival of Animal and Man."
Prof. Azeez stressed that providing specific grazing routes would ensure the safety of both animals and herders, particularly during the dry season. She also warned against continuous animal grazing along major highways, citing the adverse effects of petroleum product emissions on human and animal health.
The renowned veterinary surgeon further appealed to the government and institutions of higher learning to create hygienic environments with zero tolerance for open-air emissions from diesel engines and generators. She also encouraged individuals to prioritize regular health checks to prevent sudden deaths and debilitating health conditions.
In addition, Prof. Azeez advocated for the planting of Moringa and other medicinal plants, which have antioxidant potentials that can mitigate the harmful impacts of hydrocarbons on cardiovascular and respiratory health.
