URGENT CALL FOR ATTENTION TO THE NEEDS OF NATIONAL OPEN UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA UNDERGRADUATES
The Leadership of the Congress of the National Open University of Nigeria Students (CoNS) wishes to bring to the attention of the esteemed Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, the pressing need for a more accommodating environment for undergraduate students of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
As representatives of the student body, we have observed various challenges faced by NOUN undergraduates in accessing adequate facilities and resources to support their academic pursuits. Despite the commendable efforts of the university administration, there remain areas where improvements are urgently needed to enhance the overall student experience.
We therefore appeal to Prof. Olufemi Peters and the university management to prioritize the following areas:
1. Access to Academic Resources: Ensure that NOUN undergraduates have access to up-to-date academic materials, including textbooks, online resources, and research facilities, to support their learning and research endeavours.
2. Infrastructure Development: Invest in the development and maintenance of physical infrastructure, including classrooms, laboratories, and study spaces, to create a conducive learning environment for students.
3. Student Support Services: Strengthen student support services, including counselling, academic advising, and career guidance, to provide students with the necessary guidance and support throughout their academic journey.
4. Enhanced Communication Channels: Establish effective communication channels between university management and students to facilitate feedback, address concerns, and promote transparency and accountability in decision-making processes.
5. Recognition and Integration: Advocate for the recognition and integration of NOUN undergraduates into relevant academic and professional bodies to ensure equal opportunities for career advancement and further academic pursuits.
We believe that by addressing these key areas, the university can better fulfil its mandate of providing quality education and empowering students to achieve their full potential.
We call upon Prof. Olufemi Peters and the university management to heed our plea and take proactive measures to address the needs of NOUN undergraduates. Together, we can work towards building a more inclusive and student-centred learning environment at the National Open University of Nigeria.
