The Owode/Onire only female and youngest aspirant contesting under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Rukayat Shittu, other female aspirants, and hundreds of supporters in Kwara State on Monday paid a solidarity visit to the State party secretariat in Ilorin.


The female aspirants under the umbrella body of Kwara Progressive Women Aspirants (KWA-PWA) contest the 2023 general elections across the 16 local government areas.


The press briefing was held at the conference hall of the party secretariat.  


Giving the opening address, Rukayat Shittu explained that the female aspirants were convoked to appreciate Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq's giant strides in Kwara State, particularly the gender-inclusion policy in the State.


The female aspirants in a joint speech said, “We, the KWA-PWA join together to appreciate our dear governor, the People’s Governor, the gender-friendly Governor to appreciate him and to pledge support for his re-election because one good term deserves another. Governor Abdulrazaq AbdulRahman deserves another.”


“During the last few years in office, Mallam AbdulRahman has done so well by appointing young people, women into his administration to ensure that the patriarchal kind of government in Kwara State in the previous administration is remodeled.


“Many youths, female commissioners, Senior Special Assistants, Special Advisers were among others in Mallam AbdulRahman’s administration. With these strides, many women folks in our state were thrilled and motivated by standing up boldly for their constitutional rights.

“Also our great party, APC has done so well by reducing the nomination form fees for women, and this development brought in many women coming onboard to contest several positions in the forthcoming elections across the federation. 


“Relatedly, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has an unprecedented belief and hope in the capacity of women. 


“He has led the campaign for the advancement of women folk in governance, we continue to applaud his genuine leadership skills and efforts in the State.


“Also, as the APC primaries are fast approaching, the KWA-PWA passionately appeals to His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and the APC leadership in Kwara State to kindly reward the large turnout of women that indicated interest to contest under the ruling party for the 2023 general elections across the 16 LGAs.


“This is also the first time, that Kwara State would have so many women, interested in seeking electives offices, owing to the opportunities given to us by our leader in Kwara State.


“The outcome of the APC primaries in the State, and across the federation would largely define our great party on the inclusion of women in the governance process.


“Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has been exemplary, on the proper ideal that women too can perform. Now, it is time for Kwara again to show its leadership skill and set a pace for other states to follow.”

The Lagos State Football Association board has swiftly acted to address a blemish on the otherwise impeccable organization of the 2025 President Federation Cup finals, which took place last Saturday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
