NPFL 22: Shooting Stars Defeat Nasarawa United in Night Match

Nasarawa United played their last game of the first phase of the 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League Season but ended the stanza with a 1-0 loss to their hosts, Shooting Stars Sports Club at the refurbished Lekan Salami Sports Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Sunday night.

Uko Aniete's deflected goal in the 14th minute was the separating factor between both sides in a clash full of pace, energy, intensity and entertainment.

Shortly after the goal, United regrouped and continued to launch strings of attacks against the hosts, with Otegbeye Ajibola, King Osanga, Bashir Usman, Shehu Lawal and Shammasu Mohammed all coming close to scoring but were unlucky.

The result leaves the Solid Miners in 14th position with 22 points, four points behind Shooting Stars who advanced to 9th.

Both sides will meet again on matchday 20, but this time at United's backyard, during the second stanza of the league on 3rd April, 2022.

POST-MATCH REACTIONS:

Coach Bala Nikyu(NAS): "The game has been played, won and lost, and that's what it takes.

"Being given a three-match ultimatum is an internal arrangement that you should sit up to do the work - it's no condemnation as the work is still ongoing.

"I wish I could comment on the aspect when the flag was raised against us during a goal area scramble, but I don't talk about officiating.

"We are done with the first stanza of the league, we hope to bounce back better and stronger in the reversed stanza - in fact, we are not under any threat, whatsoever.

"Well, we lost about twenty-two players last season, and the crop of players we have now are doing their best to stabilize in the club, which I know they will as we head into the second round of the league, and during that period, I hope we won't be conceding early goals like we did in the first phase."

Coach Edith Olumide Agoye(SHO): "It wasn't an easy game for us considering a lot of factors.

"We played against a team who had their backs on the wall. They came with everything they had, but  we knew how important it was for us to get the maximum points, and we are grateful that we got the maximum points.

"We keep improving in each of our games, and we hope to improve further.

"We will use the break period to improve all aspects of the team.

"You will be kept abreast about the health condition of our injured player, Uko Aniete, as the team's doctors are in charge of the situation.

"But on a general note,  Nasarawa United are a team led by one of the best Coaches in the land, and they are a very strong side, and were runners-up in the last FA Cup in Benin City, but unfortunately, they are going through a lot of difficulties, which can happen to any team, anytime.

"They are not a bad side, and I hope they will turn around the situation for good as we all set our eyes towards the second half of the league."

King Osanga(NAS): "Generally, it's a nice game. During the second half, we did all we could to alter the scoreline, but that's football.

"When we return home for the second phase of the league, we hope to pay back this defeat to 3SC.

"From the first two games which we will be at home during the second half of the league, we will do everything to pick the six points, and that will help us to return to a better position on the log."
