NPFL 22: Remo Stars Overcome Sunshine Stars

Sunshine Stars' push for a top place in the NPFL standings was blighted on matchday 17 following a 3-0 derby defeat to Remo Stars in Ikenne.

Both sides went for it from the get-go and after a couple of half-chances at both ends, goalkeeper, Olufemi Kayode stood firm to repel the hosts from the first real chance of the game after 20 minutes.

Nevertheless, there was no denying the Skye Blues 20 minutes later as a a wing back, Seun Ogunribido powered home from an acute angle to break the deadlock.

Anthony Okpe extended the lead for Remo Stars midway through the second period. But Sunshine Stars never let go of their positive style of play despite falling behind.

And for a moment it appeared they had a route back when Ikenna Cooper found the back of the net but Promise Awaosanmi was adjudged to have used his hand on the ball while providing the assist.

With the chance of a comeback fast fading away, Okpe again, scored another header for the hosts, putting the game to bed four minutes from time.

Sunshine Stars will now regroup in Akure, before heading back to base for a date with Dakkada FC in Ijebu Ode on Sunday.
