TotalEnergies AFCON: Chard, CAR, Rwanda and Others' Refugees Attend Opening Ceremony in Yaoundé

As the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon, 2021 kicked off last Sunday with the match between the host Cameroon and Burkina Faso in the magnificent lair of Olembe Stadium in Yaoundé.


Among the guests at this prestigious event are hundreds of refugees from the Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, and Rwanda. They took their places in the stands, vibrating to the rhythm of the spectacle offered by the teams on the lawn.


The moment of communion was captured by the UNHRC officers also present for the opening ceremony and the scheduled matches.


The day before, some of the refugees played a football match.



The initiative of UNHRC the United Nations Refugee Agency is supported by CAF which makes a point of bringing joy and hope to communities and vulnerable people.


UNHRC's primary mission is to safeguard the rights and well-being of people who have been forced to flee. The agency works alongside its partners and communities to ensure that everyone has the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another country. UNHRC also strives to secure lasting solutions.

Kwara United GM Badawiy Banned for Two Years from Lagos Stadia

The Lagos State Football Association board has swiftly acted to address a blemish on the otherwise impeccable organization of the 2025 President Federation Cup finals, which took place last Saturday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos. During the highly charged final match between Abakaliki FC and Kwara United, it was observed that the General Manager of the victorious Kwara United, Mr. Bashir Badawiy, violated the stringent security measures in place. He made reckless attempts to run and celebrate in front of the five state governors seated in the VVIP section of the stadium, thereby jeopardizing their safety as well as that of other prominent dignitaries and industry leaders present.
