SYAN Oyo South Mourns Late Gov. Akala, Says he is a True Elder Stateman

The Honourable representing Oyo South Senatorial District in the South Youth Assembly of Nigeria (SYAN) Hon. Adekola Tijani Adewoyin has consoled with the immediate family, friends, political associates, and entire indigenes of Oyo State over the death of the state's former governor, Otunba Chief Christopher Adebayo Alao Akala who joined his ancestors mid-day Wednesday afternoon.


This is condolence message was contained in a statement issued in Ilorin by the Senior Special Assistant on media to Hon. Adewoyin, Olusola Hammed where he prayed to God to grant repose to the soul of the diseased and God be with his family.


The statement reads in part, "It is with a heavy heart that we received the news of the death of former Oyo State governor, Chief Christopher Adebayo Alao Akala who passed away on Wednesday afternoon after a brief illness". 


Hon. Adewoyin described late Otunba Alao Akala as a true elder statesman, a patriotic leader who had the interest of his people at heart.


Hon. Adewoyin sympathized with the people of Oyo State and Ogbomoso in particular who has lost an industrious son barely a few months after the demise of Soun of Ogbomoso who joined his ancestors less than two months ago.


Oyo State under Alao Akala witnessed tremendous development as a lot of capital projects were inaugurated.


Sources close to the Alao-Akala family confirmed the death of the former Oyo State governor and deputy governor.


Alao-Akala was aged 71 years old.


He served as the Deputy Governor of Oyo State from May 2003 to January 2006. Following the impeachment of then-incumbent Governor (Rashidi Ladoja), Alao-Akala was sworn into office in January 2006 and served for 11 months.


In December 2006, the impeachment was overturned by the Supreme Court, and Rashidi Ladoja was reinstated.


Alao-Akala contested and won the gubernatorial election in 2007 as the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and became the executive governor of Oyo state, serving a full term till May 2011.


Hon. Adewoyin however prayed that God grant late Akala an eternal, repose his soul and be with his immediate family, friends, and political associates.

The Lagos State Football Association board has swiftly acted to address a blemish on the otherwise impeccable organization of the 2025 President Federation Cup finals, which took place last Saturday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
