Abia Warriors Defeat Debtor Heartland at Okigwe

Abia Warriors beat Heartland by a lone goal at the Okigwe Township Stadium. An error in the 11th minute gifted Gabriel Innocent with the only goal of the game. Heartland seized possession thereafter but failed to restore parity through Jonathan Alukwu.

Andrew Abalogu got whacked on his tibia in the 19th minute but soldiered on till the end of the first period.

A quick transition from Heartland presented a half chance for Ohanachom but the weight of the pass meant He couldn't get on to the pass but an onrushing Ebuka Okoro hit the ball with venom which came off a defender in the 44th minute.

The second period was much more different. Heartland bossed proceedings but failed to break the deadlock.

Chukwudi Nwaodu, Solomon Moses and Okon Samuel led the Orchestra pulling the strings in the midfield. A sweeping move opened up Abia Warriors from the right flank but Gabriel Mafourayo's strike in the 52nd minute lacked the firepower to beat Pius Ibrahim in goal for the Umuahia landlords. Two minutes later Heartland got a free kick in a Promising position but Okon Samuel's Vicious strike was missed by a hairsbreadth.

In the 56th Minute, Solomon Moses took matters into his own hands moving from left-back to central Midfield before unleashing a screamer from twenty-five yards but a finger from Pius Ibrahim spoiled the party as he tipped it over the woodwork for a corner kick.

Chukwudi Nwaodu pounced on a loose ball after the corner kick, glide past two defenders before unleashing a rocket but again Pius Ibrahim came to the rescue of his team.

Heartland's domination meant that Imama had to make four Substitutions in 2 minutes. Ogwu Clement left for former Heartland player Shedrack Oghali. Daniel Wotli for Yakubu Sampson.

Shedrack Oghali quickly made his presence felt but Jimoh Gbadamosi was equal to the task.

In the 70th Minute, Jimoh foiled an attempt from Oghali.

Abia Warriors growing in Confidence raided Heartland but Jimoh took one for the team by bringing down   Shedrack for a Free kick. Udochukwu Anumudu blazed the resultant free-kick wide.

Peter Nwadike for Heartland in the  84th minute came on for Gabriel Mafourayo.

In the 90th minute.

Heartland hit the host on a counter. Chinedu Ohanachom was upended by the keeper but just as he was protesting for a penalty the ball fell kindly for Jonathan Alukwu who for the second time failed to keep his volley down. It was a glorious opportunity to restore parity to the scoreline.

Godwin Obaje was deservedly given the Matching orders in the 91st minute.

It ended 1-0 in favour of Abia Warriors. In 13 meetings Abia Warriors have won 8 times, Both sides have managed  4 draws and just one win for Heartland in 2020.
