2021 AFCON R16: Sadiq is an Important Part of the Team - Equavoen

The Super Eagles interim Coach Austin Equavoen has come to the defense of under-pressure striker Sadiq Umar saying the lanky forward is an important member of the Super Eagles. 


Equavoen stated in this while feeding questions from reporters during the press conference ahead of tomorrow's quarter fine battle against the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia, "yes I had a long time talking to him in our training yesterday, I told him to remain calm and assured him of my belief in him. Sadiq has scored a good number of goals for his club side and I reminded him that his primary duty is to score goals or create assists. I believe Sadiq is an important part of this team", Eguavoen noted.



The Super Eagles Gaffer also stressed that the visit of prominent Nigerians promising the players money is just the beginning of many to their way emphasizing that it will boost the morale of the players to give their all on the field of play, " it is not just starting and it will not end here, money is good and a strong motivation but I have told my boys the strongest motivation comes from within. the only time they visit the players is during their leisure time, they can't be allowed to come when they are resting or having training". 


The President of the NFF only came to us during the half-time vs Egypt and he came with the Chairman of Air peace and it only lasted for 5mins There was no visit against Sudan, no visit against Guinea Bissau and I am sure there will be no visit tomorrow "


Speaking on the strength of Tunisians, Eguavoen said he and his players are aware that Carthage Eagles are a traditional team when it comes to AFCON and the Super Eagles will not underrate them.


"we know they are a traditional country and we must respect them. We are going to approach the game the same way we've approached our past 3 games".

The Lagos State Football Association board has swiftly acted to address a blemish on the otherwise impeccable organization of the 2025 President Federation Cup finals, which took place last Saturday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
