Inconsolable Heartland Queens goalkeeper, Uchechi Onyechere has said all hopes are not lost for her side to still go ahead to win one of the two promotion tickets at the ongoing 2021 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Championship in Abuja.
The Owerri landladies went down to Naija Ratels with two unanswered goals in Thursday’s matchday 2 clash at the Aguiyi Ironsi Sports Complex.
One goal in each half off the foot of strikers, Josephine Dzer and Aishat Animashaun condemned the Owerri outfit to their first defeat at the championship.
Heartland Queens were forced to 1-1 draw by Kwara Ladies in matchday 1 clash on the championship opening day on Wednesday.
Once here who was unarguably the best performer on the matchday 2 clash said people can only write off her side in the championship at their own peril.
“I feel bad over the loss to Naija Ratels despite our good performance, I tried my very best to ensure we win.
“Well, the deed has been done, I am focusing on the next match against Gallant Queens on Saturday.
“Of course, we can get the ticket, I believe if we push and work harder, we will win the next two matches and brighten our chance to claim one of the promotion tickets.
“I will still give my very best to make sure we win, I believe we can make it back to the premiership.
“Heartland Queens are the winning team despite the momentary setback, we are not losing hope, we are winning our remaining two matches.
“Anybody that writes us off will be doing that at his/her own peril, we will surely claim one of the tickets,” said the fair complexion shot-stopper.
Heartland Queens' next match will be against the bottom-placed side, Gallant Queens on Saturday.
Adamawa Queens are at the summit on six points with their 100% performance intact at the championship after they whipped Kwara Ladies 3-0 in matchday 2 clash while Naija Ratels sit on the second spot on three points after one match and Heartland Queens and Kwara Ladies are third and fourth respectively on one point and Gallant Queens at the rear with no point.
Friday is a rest day for the participants at the championship while actions return on Saturday.
