Tinubu Approves Six New Executive Directors for NPA and NIMASA

  President Bola Ahmed Tinuubu President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointments of six new executive directors for two agencies under the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy; the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA). Those appointed as NPA executive directors are Ms. Vivian Edet (Finance and Administration), Olalekan Badmus (Marine & Operations) and Ibrahim Umar (Engineering and Technical Services). For NIMASA are Jibril Abba (Maritime Labour and Cabotage Services), Chudi Offodile (Finance and Administration) and Fatai Adeyemi (Operations). Third Mainland Bridge: Lagos Issues Travel Advisory Ahead of Closure

  The  Lagos  government has issued a travel advisory on how road users can navigate their way between the Mainland and Island parts of the state ahead of the January 9, 2024 closure of the Third Mainland Bridge for repairs. In a statement on Thursday, January 4, the state Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun   Osiyemi, said the repairs of the Third Mainland Bridge by the Federal Ministry of Works will continue with the closure of Iyana Oworonshoki-Adeniji Adele bound for the effective repairs of the entire section of the bridge. The nation reports that the Commissioner also said the timings were selected to match the peak period flow of traffic and reduce travel stress. Five people on a coast guard plane died after it was hit by a Japan Airlines Airbus A350 coming in to land, but all 379 people on the airliner were evacuated. Here follows a rundown of what is known after the collision on January 2 at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, which ended with both planes engulfed in flames. – Sequence of events – According to a communications transcript released by the Japanese government, Japan Airlines flight JAL-516 arriving from Hokkaido was cleared at 5:44:56 pm by air traffic control to land on runway 34R. On the tarmac, coast guard flight JA722A was instructed 15 seconds later to “taxi to holding point C5”, located at least 50 metres (164 feet) from the edge of the runway. The pilot of JA722A acknowledged the order immediately afterwards. Roughly two minutes later, the Japan Airlines flight landed and hit the coast guard’s DHC-8 aircraft, suggesting that the latter had proceeded onto the actual runway.
